The Smart Strip has 10 clearly marked outlets that you plug your computer or home entertainment center peripherals into. When you power down your computer or stereo, the Smart Strip automatically shuts down the power to your computer's and entertainment's center peripherals. This unique feature not only saves you money and helps the environment, it also makes shutting down your systems fast and easy.
Unlike most power strips, the Smart Strip itself uses very little energy. It uses one watt of power when fully engaged and less than 1/4 of a watt when the automatically switched outlets are off.
Advanced Surge Protection with Superior EMI/RFI Filter
Power strips without EMI/RFI (Electromagnetic Interference/Radio Frequency Interference) run the risk of allowing waves from one electronic device to cause malfunctions or interference in another. The Smart Strip LCG3 protects you from this risk with its advanced EMI/RFI filter, backed up by a 15 AMP circuit breaker and two frequency-sensitive RC filters that eliminate false switching. Plus, a passive current sensor ensures an ultra-safe, ultra-clean switching off and on of your peripherals, giving you added peace of mind that your valuable electronics will remain safe.

on 2010-03-03We get squeezed like a bar rag every month by SDG&E in San Diego, so I bought this going to the ends of the earth trying to bring down triple-digit electricity bills. It worked OK for a couple of months, then suddenly it wouldn't power off devices anymore no matter how I tweaked the sensitivity. After reading more recent reviews here--it looks like people having problems with this device are streaming in.
I wouldn't buy this--obviously it's totally unreliable and $30+ down the drain.

on 2010-02-25I bought this to use in my office. I have a PC with two monitors, two printers and assorted other peripherals. I have the PC plugged into the main outlet, so when I power down the PC everything else goes off. It worked great for a week. But now when I shut down the computer everything seems to shut down but, then all of the peripherals start cycling on and off, on and off. So now I shut the strip down manually using the toggle switch after the PC shuts down.
Disappointing.
I have an electric heater plugged into a different outlet, thought there might be some power surge issue but I have been turning off the heater prior to turning off the PC and it makes no difference.
I don't think there is anything with my PC that would be causing this, so I can only conclude that the power strip isn't so smart after all.
